Evaluator
What: The Evaluator evaluates a prepared speech given by a speaker.
Who: This is a slightly more advanced role, so it is normally performed by members that are familiar with the club and its procedures.
Why: This is one of the most important benefits Toastmasters has to offer its members – feedback. Toastmasters work very hard preparing for and delivering speeches and the best way for them to continually improve their skills is to receive verbal and written feedback. All speakers, regardless of their level of experience, knowledge or talents can always benefit and grow from constructive feedback.
How: The Evaluator is assigned to evaluate a speaker’s prepared speech. The speaker will give the Evaluator his/her Speech Manual for the current assignment that outlines the targets and the specific evaluation guidelines. The Evaluator listens to the speech and objectively notes their personal impression of the speech - everything that they liked, how it made them feel, any suggestions for improvements, the message they received, things they have improved upon, etc. The Evaluator completes the written evaluation in the speaker’s manual and also gives his/her verbal evaluation to the speaker and the club when called upon to do so.
